June & Caroline,
It is scary and it is disgraceful. 2006...the anti-choice fanatics were patient and they finally got their way. This WILL go to the Supreme Court and Roe v. Wade will then face it's most serious test.

Keep in mind that even if Roe v. Wade is overturned, the final decision on whether to ban or allow abortions will fall to the individual states, so abortions will still be available in most places. I use to CARE about this issue but now I really don't so much, because the women of the Red States voted for these politicians who are chipping away at their rights, and "you get what you pay for". Women make up over 50% of the nation's population and are 50% of the voting populace, and thus are 50% responsible for the political outcomes that they must then live under. Blame the women of South Dakota if abortions become illegal there, they are not victims, and polls show that most women there support the ban!

Hi Crystal,

Thanks for your thoughtful response. I can't help my reactions, most likely because of my age. I remember what it used to be like, when abortion was illegal. This country has such a strong puritanical streak running through it that I question a woman's right to choose all the time. I also question the future of laws. Simply because this fool was elected our president shows what the right of centers are capable of inflicting upon the whole nation. California may be a liberal state along the coastline, but go inland not too many miles and it's a red state. Chicago may be a liberal city but go into the suburbs and go south and what do you have? I also have a hard time with your ideas because perhaps those women who need an abortion did not vote right of center. Perhaps their parents didn't. Perhaps they're too poor to travel out of state to obtain a termination. Perhaps they are victims of rape or incest but their evangelical religion won't allow them an abortion or to travel on their own or a million other reasons. Bottom line is those very people are being denied something which is legal.

Another point: All elected officials are required to pledge their allegiance to this country and to swear that they will uphold the Constitution of the United States of America. This has certainly been violated.

Crystal, I have two issues that are near and dear to my heart and which I support with my pocketbook and through volunteerism. One is the preservation of a woman's right to choose and the other is homelessness, with a particular amount of attention to homeless mothers and children.

Would you mind if I forwarded your email to Planned Parenthood and NARAL? I would not send them your email addy or any info about you, but I think your opinions would be of interest to them. I think it's hard for them to realize how uninterested many young women are in this topic.

Thanks again for your comments.

What can I say but oh boy. Like you Lin have been there. Perhaps they should make Vera Drake compulsory viewing. Nothing will stop desperate women. Just makes it more dangerous that's all. Iran is not the only place with ayatollahs.
